“AI Safety Prize” - Safer artificial intelligence thanks to new prize at Swiss Cyber Security Days

Bern, June 12th 2023 - In view of the increasing spread of artificial intelligence (AI) with safety-critical consequences, the think tank Pour Demain and the organisers of the Swiss Cyber Security Days are launching the "AI Safety Prize".

While companies are busy developing ever more powerful AI models and applications, leading AI experts from research and business are warning of the potentially negative consequences for society.

Inspired by Bug Bounty programmes in the cybersecurity industry, the prize aims to reward submissions which identify and report security vulnerabilities in AI systems. It is the first such prize in the German-speaking world.

The prize will be presented for the first time in September 2023 at the Swiss Cyber Security Days in Bern. The aim is to draw the attention of business, science and politics to the topic of AI safety, to close concrete security gaps and to create the regulatory framework for safe deployment.

The first call for submissions will have two categories:

  • Safety vulnerabilities in Large Language Models such as ChatGPT.

  • Safety gaps in open-source AI models already deployed in critical infrastructures in Switzerland.

Interested parties, ranging from students to professors and cybersecurity professionals, can sign up at aisafetyprize.ch to be informed about the details of the award call in the coming weeks.
